Understanding the Manufactured Home Delivery Process

If homeownership has always been on your mind, then the sight of your manufactured home coming to its foundation would surely make you jump and shout, or even cry, with joy. But is the delivery process that easy? Sadly, it isn’t. Though manufactured homes have to be transported only once—from the factory to the site—the delivery can still be stressful. Let us take a walk through the entire delivery process.

Prepping up the land

Before the house of your dreams touches the land, the land has to be prepared and leveled so that the home sits just perfectly. As each home site is unique, site prep varies from homeowner to homeowner. To know what’s best for you, you should consult your home consultant.

A qualified local contractor will complete the land improvement options. They will prepare the land so that the home’s quality and durability are not impacted after its placement.

Taking permits for situating the home

You will need to check with your local government to see if there are any legal and permit requirements that you need to fulfill. If you plan to shift to a manufactured home community, you have to be aware of all the community rules- these rules vary from community to community.

If you are placing your manufactured home on private property, do not forget to double-check your city’s zoning requirements. You can even contact your local manufactured home retailer to ask for placement requirements as they are usually familiar with the local regulations.

Planning the delivery

The delivery of manufactured homes demands careful planning. To avoid miscommunications, it would be better to hire a single contractor to take care of everything from moving to assembly. The crucial part of the plan would be route planning. You will have to look for a route without low bridges, power lines, curvy roads, and steep hills for a successful delivery.

No, all this is not your headache—leave it to the professional manufactured home movers. You only need to check if the delivery costs are flexible and there are no hidden extra charges for possible hiccups in the delivery, such as bad weather or heavy traffic.

The finale: delivery day

Once all these steps are successfully done, only then can your home be transported to the final site. As a homeowner, what is your responsibility on the delivery day? To let the professionals do the work!

After your home is shipped, it will be inventoried by the construction supervisors and installed by the installation contractor. After this, plumbing and electrical contractors will connect your manufactured house to the water and electrical grids. Once done, you will obtain an occupancy permit from your local building authority. This will certify that your home is all set and safe to be inhabited!
