Most Common Manufactured Home Myths

Manufactured homes are becoming increasingly popular in central Alabama and the surrounding area. From those who are downsizing to those who cannot afford a stick-built house, everyone seems to have become interested in the manufacturing housing industry. Why wouldn’t they? After all, these homes are reasonably priced and make homeownership more accessible.

However, there is still a sizable proportion of the population who cannot imagine living in a factory-built home. They have become disillusioned by the myths and misconceptions that are floating around in the manufactured housing industry. We are here to dispel those myths.

Let’s get started…

Myth #1. They are Not Valued in the Market

What prevents people from purchasing manufactured homes is the belief that they do not have the same financial value as conventional houses in the Central Alabama real estate market.

However, this is false.

The factors determining the appreciation or depreciation value of the manufactured houses are the same as those of stick-built homes—location, market conditions, economy, level of maintenance, size, and layout.

To put it another way, both types of houses are equally valuable.

Myth #2. They Do Not Last Long

People have the misconception that houses built in factories are of poor quality. They believe that because the materials used to construct the manufactured home are inexpensive, their home will not last long.

This is also not true.

The raw materials used to construct manufactured homes are stored in safe facilities, and the house is only designed and assembled by experts with adequate training and exceptional skills. Because the manufactured home must pass numerous safety checks, it is built with greater precision.

Myth #3. They are Unsafe

Forget the myth that manufactured homes are unsafe and highly vulnerable to hurricane, storm, and fire damage.

In fact, manufactured homes are safer than stick-built houses because they must be transported by road and installed on the site.

Not only are they structurally sound, but their gas, plumbing, water, and sewer lines are less likely to fail.

Myth #4. They are Only for Low-Income Families

This is yet another common misconception that we had to dispel.

Simply because manufactured homes are not built traditionally and are affordable for most people does not imply that they are intended exclusively for the poor.

A manufactured home can be bought by anyone, regardless of their financial situation or social standing. In fact, most modern modular homes in Montgomery, AL, include all of the luxury features found in traditional homes.

Myth #5. They have Limited Financing Options

If financing is dissuading you from buying a manufactured home, rejoice: there are numerous financing options and lenders available for factory-built homes in Central Alabama. There are quite a few loan options available, ranging from FHA to USDA. Furthermore, you may be able to obtain a loan with lower interest rates and favorable terms.

Now that the myths have been dispelled, what is keeping you from buying your manufactured home?
