Maximizing Energy Efficiency in Your Manufactured Home this Autumn Season

With the autumnal equinox marking the start of fall, temperatures are expected to drop (fingers crossed, especially for those in the South). This is the perfect time to evaluate your manufactured home's energy efficiency. Whether you have a new home or an older one, there are simple and cost-effective ways to make your home more energy-efficient.

For those with a bigger budget:

  • Installing energy-efficient windows and doors
  • Adding insulation to the walls and roof
  • Installing insulated skirting
  • Investing in a roof cap

For those on a tighter budget:

  • Using thick drapes for drafty windows
  • Covering unused electrical outlets
  • Placing a blanket at the base of doors with gaps

Thermostat

Heating and air conditioning consume almost 50% of your home's energy, according to the Department of Energy. By simply turning down the thermostat, you can save on energy consumption and money. Try adjusting the thermostat by 1 degree per 8 hours, especially at night when you're sleeping. Use an extra blanket or dress warmly to stay cozy.

Lighting

Switching to more energy-efficient compact fluorescent or LED bulbs can significantly lower energy consumption and save you money. Begin by phase-out replacement of incandescent bulbs as they burn out. Remember to also turn lights off when leaving a room.
